All colleges throughout the IECC district offer tuition-free classes to help prepare students for the GED exam. Day and evening classes are typically offered in 8- or 16-week formats. The GED/Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes review math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and the Constitution, which are all covered on the exam.

- Adult Basic Education (ABE): Adult Basic Education classes offer instruction in math, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills. These skills are needed for success in the workplace, the community and for education. Adults, 16 years of age and older who meet certain requirements, are eligible to enroll.
- Adult Secondary Education (ASE): Preparation classes for the General Educational Development (GED) exam or other accepted High School Equivalency (HSE) exams are available for adults, 16 years of age and older, who have not graduated from high school. Also offered in Spanish.
