Alternative Schools
Provides guidance and assistance to prevent school absence and dropout for those at risk of expulsion, and economic, behavioral, and educational support to help students maintain their normal school curriculum and schedule. Programs include: - Attendance Improvement Matters (AIM): Provide direct services to students that will assist them in overcoming economic barriers that interfere with school attendance. - Bridges program: A full time educational option for truant students who wish to catch up to grade level or retrieve credits missed because of poor school attendance.

Safe environment and mentors for students with alternative learning needs. Safe Schools and Alternative Programs are designed to meet the needs of individual learners. Safe School programs serve students who have been expelled or who have served multiple suspensions due to serious and/or repeated misconduct. Alternative programs are designed to serve students for a variety of purposes such as credit recovery and chronic truancy.
Truant Alternative Optional Education Program: Designed for students who are at risk of school failure due to being truant, chronic truants, dropouts or potential dropouts with attendance issues. Regional Safe Schools Program (RSSP): Designed for students who have multiple long-term suspensions, or students who are eligible for expulsion or in lieu of expulsion.

Alternative Education
- Mission of the R.E.A.D.Y. Program is to provide a holistic education program for students in an alternative setting. - Integrated curriculum includes partnerships with the families, the home school, social service agencies, and educational communities to help students find pathways to academic, occupational, and personal success.
Alternative education for students expelled, suspended, or struggling at their regular school. Program options: - Regional Safe School Program (RSSP): for regular education students who have been disruptive in the education program. - Options: Safe and secure classroom for students who suffer from anxiety and other non-disciplinary attendence issues. - FLEX: Late-day program (3:30 pm - 8:00 pm) for at-risk students and those with attendance struggles.
Provides educational experiences to help children learn the basic ideas, attitudes, and skills essential for school and life.
Alternative schooling for students, including the following programs: - Regional Safe Schools Program (RSSP): For students with behavioral issues. - Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP): Alternative learning setting for students who need more intensive academic/social/emotional intervention.
For students who need an alternative option because a traditional school may not provide the environment or support necessary to succeed. Focused on students’ social and emotional needs while meeting their academic needs. Smaller class sizes allow for blended personalized instruction, resulting in a supportive and flexible in-person learning environment for all students.
17-month life skills program for at-risk adolescents - Residential Phase (first 5 months/22 weeks): On campus in Rantoul. Long days, rigorous mental/physical activities, very limited personal time. Includes at least 40 hours of community service activities. Select a personal mentor. - Post-Resident Phase (last 12 months): Graduates return to their community and work towards completion of their Individual Life Plan. Continue education, volunteering, or seeking employment. Mentor takes on an active role. Education includes: - Credit Recovery. - GED Class. - CPR Training. - Computer Class. - Food Handler certification. - Nutrition Class.
Provides a development program for youth that offers high school dropouts or Unit 5 transfers the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or GED while learning and becoming certified in residential construction, property maintenance, health care, and information Program lasts 9-22 months. Students have the opportunity to earn a scholarship for college or trade school by completing AmeriCorps service hours at a YouthBuild Vocational Site while building or providing maintenance services to economically disadvantaged individuals and families, volunteering in healthcare settings, and assisting with IT needs. Students may be eligible for a monetary incentive according to the progress they make toward goals. Students' schedules rotate from school to vocational site. Students receive advocacy surrounding their social service needs, training in community leadership, computer training and support, and intensive case management throughout their college careers.

Assists students who are lacking high school credits, for a variety of reasons, earn course credits toward high school graduation.
The RSSP Program is for students in Vermilion County who have been expelled from their home school. The home school may refer students to the RSSP program so that the student may continue on with their education in an alternative setting.
Serves “at risk” students and their families by providing an opportunity for education and guidance through various school-based and community-based programs. Students have the opportunity to earn their diplomas in a timely manner by utilizing an Individualized Educational Plan.
West Town Academy (WTA) is an alternative high school for students who are not enrolled in a traditional high school or GED program, and who want to take the important step of returning to school, earning their diploma, and taking control of their future. West Town Academy's mission is to educate and support students so they can be successful in the classroom and in life, while building a positive future for themselves and their community.
