WOMEN VOTERS OF MCLEAN COUNTY | LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF MCLEAN COUNTY
Encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League as an organization is nonpartisan. It takes action in support of or in opposition to selected governmental issues. It does not support or oppose political parties or candidates. Members are encouraged to concern themselves with public issues and are urged to work as individuals in the party of their choice. Activities and accomplishments include: - Participating in voter registration and education efforts. - Sponsoring candidates' forums. - Supporting home rule government for Bloomington-Normal. - Encouraging alternatives to jail. - Implementing a poll watching program to improve the voting experience of McLean County citizens. - Supporting a drug court program for McLean County. - Conducting studies on issues relevant to the citizenry of the county, state and nation, e.g. the availability of affordable housing in McLean County and the availability of mental health services in McLean County, etc. - Partnering with the McLean County Chamber to provide candidate training for potential candidates for political office. - Observing city, township and county board meetings to encourage transparency in government.
